The Witcher’s Henry Cavill Pushed For More Magical Signs To Be Included In The Show
Netflix’s first season of The Witcher has been out for a few days now, and already fans that had the time to binge watch its entirety have begun to weigh in with their thoughts, with the show receiving mostly positive praise from its fan-base. As enjoyable of a watch as it was and as perfect of a Witcher as Henry Cavill appears to be, it seems as though a few scenes throughout the first season were almost a bit lackluster had Cavill not intervened. It has been revealed that Cavill actually had to push for a bigger inclusion of the magical gestures called signs for the show, which is actually pretty surprising given how sparsely they are used.
The news comes by way of a recent interview with British GQ, wherein Henry Cavill reveals that he really wanted to push to have Geralt of Rivia use more signs throughout the first season of The Witcher. “I really wanted to push that in there, because for me the audience must know he can do these things,” Cavill said.
It mattered to me, because it’s all part of being a Witcher.”
As previously mentioned, the first season of The Witcher only lightly touches upon the use of signs when it comes to Geralt of Rivia, who leans a bit more into the use of potions and quick reflexes to get the job done. It would have been interesting to see how certain scenes would have played out had his bag of tricks been even more limited, though chances are the show’s creators likely still would’ve managed to make it as epic as the show currently is.
Netflix’s The Witcher is now available via the streaming service.
