The Last Of Us Part II Director On Spoilers: "There's So Many False Things Out There"

For those that have been hiding comfortably under a rock these past few months, this past April saw some massive story leaks for The Last of Us Part II, much to the chagrin of Naughty Dog. While this has caused many fans of the series to decide to skip the sequel altogether, game director Neil Druckmann has revealed that “[t]here’s so many false things out there” that the leaks likely don’t tell the whole story.

The news comes by way of a recent interview with Eurogamer, wherein Neil Druckmann is asked his opinion on how fans reacted to the leaked spoilers. “There’s a lot of the feedback that came out, our take on it is, you don’t know,” Druckmann said. “Right? There’s so many false things out there.”

We don’t want to go out there and correct anything because that would be spoiling the game in a way – by saying what it isn’t, we’re kind of saying what it is.”

Earlier on in the interview, The Last of Us Part II director revealed that the game isn’t really about twists or turns, “it’s about slowly ratcheting the crank and feeling the tension with the choices the characters make.” In terms of storytelling, Druckmann continues on to suggest that those complaining the loudest about the spoilers could benefit the most from playing the game.

It’s ironic or maybe sad – I think that people will benefit the most from this kind of story are the ones that are yelling the loudest right now, but I hope there’s enough in the game to draw them in and just normalize stuff that is normal. It is part of our society and it is part of owning up to an interesting nuanced character.’

The Last of Us Part II is slated to release on June 19th, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
