SXSW Awards Names Uncharted 4 Game of the Year for 2017
The South by Southwest, or SXSW, conference concludes today, but not before conducting its annual game awards ceremony. While most of the big gaming awards, such as The Game Awards, were named late last year and earlier this year, the SXSW Gaming Awards provide a later round of accolades to those exceptional games from the past year. While this year’s ceremony nominated and awarded many of the big winners from the other big award shows for 2016, the SXSW Gaming Awards made a notable move by naming Uncharted 4 Game of the Year.
As listed on GameRant, The SXSW Gaming Awards 2017 named Uncharted 4 Game of the Year, beating out Overwatch, Doom, Titanfall 2 and Dishonored 2 for the coveted Video Game of the Year award. This comes as some vengeance for Naughty Dog, as the studio lost the game of the year award to Overwatch at The Game Awards and The Game Developers Choice Awards for 2016. Uncharted 4 also won the SXSW awards for Excellence in Visual Achievement, Excellence in Animation, Excellence in Narrative and Most Memorable Character for Nathan Drake.
Overwatch did manage to nab the Excellence in Multiplayer, Trending Game of the Year and eSports Game of the Year awards at the ceremony. Other big winners, such as That Dragon, Cancer for the Matthew Crump Cultural Innovation Award and Pokemon Go for Mobile Game of the Year, can be seen listed below.
