Open World Superman Game Details Leak From ‘Batman Arkham’ Developer, Including Who’s The Villain

Superman Game

Batman Arkham developer Rocksteady Studios has been pretty quiet about what they’ve been up to over the past year, especially since they definitively retired their take on the Batman character for good. This has led to loads of speculation about their current project, chief among them, a rumored open world Superman game in the vein of the Dark Knight’s adventures in the Arkhamverse.

While the exciting rumor eventually died down from lack of proof, details of an open world that will leave players “blown away” were enough to inspire hope that one day we’d see the Superman game come to fruition. Now, new leaked details have been provided via an anonymous 4Chan post, with the leaker confirming Rocksteady’s involvement and a number of incredible-sounding details from the potential game.

Utilizing Unreal Engine 4, the proposed game is to make use of a huge open world Metropolis, taking up three times the size of the expansive Gotham City in 2015’s Arkham Knight. As the Man of Steel himself, players are said to be able to fly around the city, with combat able to integrate flying in a manner that resembles the fast aerial battles of Dragon Ball Z.

The game is supposedly set in the Arkhamverse, and will take full advantage of the comic book source material as well as the few Superman easter eggs already sprinkled around the Arkham franchise. As for what we can expect story-wise, longtime Superman foe Brainiac is revealed to be the villain, likely bringing his army of minion bots as backup for his evil deeds.

Those who wish to wield some of the hero’s more fantastic abilities, like punching black holes into existence, may be peeved to read that his powers will be significantly nerfed for this outing, mostly resembling his traditional powerset featured in Superman: The Animated Series. We also learn that Superman’s alter ego of Clark Kent will not pay a major role in the upcoming Superman game, in a similar way that Bruce Wayne wasn’t too involved in Batman Arkham.

It should come as no surprise that Rocksteady has yet to confirm an ounce of this information, especially as the leak states that an official reveal is set to happen “a couple weeks before E3”. Of course, since none if this is at all verifiable, it’s possible this exciting reveal could end up as untrue as the last rumor. Still, with Rocksteady recently teasing their project, news of an imminent reveal does seem to at least have a more than slight chance of happening.

What do you think? Would you love to have a Rocksteady Superman game, or should the developer stick to making more Batman titles?
