Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Reveals Post-Launch Fighter 'Piranha Plant' (VIDEO)

Today has been a particularly exciting day for fans looking forward to Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The Big N released a bunch of exciting news today via its Nintendo Direct presentation, from the reveal of new fighters Ken and Incineroar to the thrilling new trailer for the game’s official story mode, World of Light. After the proverbial dust settled, though, Nintendo made one last surprising reveal in the form of character #70 to join the roster: Piranha Plant.

Officially the first post-launch fighter to join the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, the iconic (and seriously annoying) Piranha Plant will basically ruin as many people’s days as it can, including those that were still holding out for Waluigi. Check out the reveal trailer below to see it in action:

According to Nintendo, Piranha Plant is still in development and will arrive around February 2019. Those looking to acquire the Piranha Plant fighter for themselves can do so for free, should they choose to purchase Super Smash Bros. Ultimate at any point between 11/1 and 1/31. The leafy fighter will likely be available for purchase for those that didn’t get the game during the previously mentioned date range.

As with the other SSBU fighters, Piranha Plant will be getting its own Amiibo figure that will be available for purchase on February 15, 2019, which could make for a hilarious post-Valentine’s day present for a loved one with a sense of humor.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on December 7, 2018.
