Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's 'World Of Light' Story Mode Revealed (VIDEO)

Today’s Nintendo Direct has been jam packed with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate news, from the reveal of the game’s last two (at launch) fighters, Ken and Incineroar, all the way to the first details about the game’s complex new Spirits Mode. Towards the end of the presentation, Nintendo gave its viewers a bit of a surprise in the form of a trailer for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s story mode, called ‘World of Light.’ Check out the explosive reveal trailer below:

Hang onto your Warp Star, because this is going to be a wild ride. As seen in the trailer, a massive amount of Master Hands descends upon our heroes and, well, decimates every last one…except for Kirby! Our wily hero manages to escape using a Warp Star, only to land back on the planet after the damage has been done and the other heroes have been locked away. Unfortunately, freeing Kirby’s companions isn’t as simple as breaking open a container, as his friends are now possessed by their alternate forms (Mario turns into Metal Mario, etc). This effectively means that Kirby has to go around freeing his allies, and in doing so will unlock other characters for the player to use as they progress.

The World of Light story mode looks absolutely thrilling, and it additionally serves the purpose of explaining how the spirits of Spirits Mode came into existence. Now that we know Kirby is the star that kicks off the story mode, fans can brush up on their ‘Down B’ skills prior to the release of SSBU.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on December 7, 2018.
