According to One of the Film’s Actors, Suicide Squad 2 Likely to Begin Filming in 2018
Even though the Suicide Squad movie received mixed reviews, the film did rather well. Raking in over $325 million in US box offices, there was no doubt that a sequel would be arriving in the not so distant future. When can Suicide Squad 2 be expected? Rick Flag actor Joel Kinnaman says that the sequel will begin filming next year, much sooner than many expected.
In a recent interview, the actor was asked what the status was on the sequel, in which he responded:
“As far as I know they’re writing the script and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change. I think I’ll definitely come back for it.”
Depending on when in 2018 filming begins, that could land Suicide Squad 2 in theaters somewhere in the Fall of 2019, after the possible release of Shazam. No official announcement has been given, this is purely speculation at this time..
It was also mentioned in the interview that a director has yet to be assigned to helm the sequel. Kinnaman was asked who he would like to see in the director’s chair:
“Ultimately, I’d love for David Ayer to direct it, but if he doesn’t want to direct it then someone who is great with character and that’s able to ground the story and maybe put these characters in a more normal situation. It would be really interesting to see these crazy characters interact with regular people as well.”
