Static Shock Movie To Be Produced By Michael B. Jordan

As the Western world continues to pursue equality for historically marginalized demographics, the entertainment industry has made more steps towards greater diversity in recent years. The superhero movie is one such genre that has fought for greater representation, with films like Wonder Woman and Black Panther breaking box office records for comic book films starring women and black actors. Warner Bros. have appeared intent to continue this trend, as they announced a few months ago that they greenlit a new Static Shock movie. Now, that project has gained a great asset in black excellence, as Black Panther’s Michael B. Jordan and his production company have been confirmed to be producing this film.

The Hollywood Reporter reported on the new agreement made by Warner Bros. Pictures and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society production company. According to the site, Jordan and his team will accompany Director Reginald Hudlin at the helm of the Static Shock movie after the project was first announced at August’s DC FanDome event. In regards to the new agreement, here’s what Jordan himself had to say:

“I’m proud to be a part of building a new universe centered around black superheroes; our community deserves that. Outlier Society is committed to bringing to life diverse comic book content across all platforms and we are excited to partner with Reggie and Warner Bros on this initial step.”

Based on Jordan’s statements, it would seem that Warner Bros. has the intent to develop other black-focused superhero films beyond the Static Shock movie. It is possible this might refer to other planned media projects based on Static Shock, such as the character’s new comic coming next year. It should also be noted that this announcement does not mean Jordan is confirmed to be starring as the lead role in the film, but it is possible the actor could play some sort of supporting role. Still, for someone with as much superhero movie experience as Jordan, this is a perfect pairing for this new DC movie, so one might say this news is hardly Shocking.
