It has been almost a month since Super Smash Bros. Ultimate made its official release, and its players are still finding innovative ways to make the game fun. Both the in-game tools and outside fan art, including some portraying characters in the style of Persona, have shown just how creative Smash Bros. fans can be. Star Wars fans have been known to express their love of both franchises ever since the Mii fighters allowed players to recreate their favorite Lucasfilm characters in the game. Now, one fan has gone to great lengths to recreate the epic Star Wars scene in which Obi-Wan and Anakin have a fateful duel.

Imgur user Zaptagious recently uploaded the custom Star Wars scene comic seen above to their account. The comic portrays the climatic duel from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith in which Obi-Wan Kenobi fights his former padawan, Anakin Skywalker. Since the film’s release in 2005, the duel has hosted some quite popular lines of dialogue that have cemented themselves in Internet meme culture. Given the internet’s equal fondness for Smash Bros., this crossover seemed destined to be.

To make the images for the comic, Zaptagious created Mii Fighters of Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan and Hayden Christiansen’s Anakin. Both are armed with the perennial Smash Bros. item, the beam sword, which has always been clearly meant as a non-copyright infringing lightsaber. These elements were then all placed in the Norfair stage, where the lava and floating metal platforms look quite similar to the lava planet Mustafar on which the former master and apprentice have their battle. We get to see Obi-Wan hold his iconic high ground, and injure Anakin to the point of near death. However, we all know he then becomes Darth Vader, whose infamous armor makes a cameo at the end of the comic. What a clever way to pay homage to this classic scene. I would say you could only hate or love this comic, but only a Sith deals in absolutes.
