Star Wars: Ewan McGregor May Return As Obi-Wan Kenobi In New Disney+ Series
It appears that Ewan McGregor may finally be returning to a galaxy far, far away. The last time we saw McGregor’s Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi on the big screen was back in Revenge of the Sith, though the 48-year-old Scottish actor also provided a voice line for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Now, it has been revealed that Ewan McGregor is currently in talks to return to reprise his role as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The news comes by way of Deadline, which reported that Ewan McGregor is now in talks to potentially return to what is arguably his most famous role. There had been rumors suggesting that Disney may have at one point planned on creating an Obi-Wan led spin-off Star Wars movie, though the Mouse House changed directions following the lackluster performance of the spin-off Han Solo movie. Instead, the focus is now on Disney+, and as such McGregor’s return seems to be linked with an as yet unannounced Disney+ series. This follows the same pathway as the Boba Fett spin-off film, which transformed into The Mandalorian, the Jon Favreau directed show that will also be debuting on Disney+.
It is currently unknown what time period McGregor’s show will take place in, though many will understandably suspect it to be set after the events of Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith, possibly kicking off upon Kenobi’s arrival on Tatooine. That said, Ewan McGregor’s casting is still technically up in the air, and we should still be holding our excitement for an official confirmation.
