Sony Officially Skipping Out On E3 2020
Given that the PlayStation 5 is a mere 10-11 months away, it would make perfect sense for Sony to be attending events and expos throughout the year to prep for the arrival of its next-gen console. While it does appear that the company does in fact plan on doing that, it has been revealed that Sony will not be attending E3 for the second year in a row, citing differences in “vision” for part of the reasoning behind its absence.
After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020,” said a Sony Interactive Entertainment spokesperson to GamesIndustry.biz. “We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year. We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content.”
We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans.”
It should be noted that Sony isn’t the only company pulling out of E3 2020, as Nintendo is opting to stream their presentations and performances instead of going for a live format. As such, this means that Microsoft is the only one of the three big companies that will have a presence at E3 2020, which should still be beneficial for the company given its upcoming release of the Xbox Series X.
