Sony Not Hosting PSX 2018 Reportedly Unrelated To The PS5
Much to the surprise of many, Sony recently announced that it would not be hosting a PlayStation Experience event this year, marking its first break from its yearly iterations since 2014. That said, the company had a well-received showing at E3 2018, where it revealed a significant percent of its lineup of games releasing in the future.
There was, of course, other speculation as to why Sony decided not to host PSX this year, some of it revolving around the PS5. The speculation suggests that the reason why Sony pulled out of the event is that the company is prepping itself for the launch of its next-gen console, though industry analyst Michael Pachter has revealed that that is not the case. In a recent interview with GamingBolt, Pachter shared his thoughts on the matter, quelling speculation that the decision had anything to do with the PS5. “I am sure it is just a cost saving move,” he said.
They probably decided the expense wasn’t worth the benefits they got. No, I don’t think it’s related to PS5 launch.”
Sony certainly has its hands full now regardless. Just recently, the company finally gave in to the overwhelming demands for crossplay inclusion, with Fortnite being its official step into the ring. The company is likely not to worried about Xbox holding its own Xo event later this year, and is instead content with getting its own house in order, regardless of how far along the PS5 is.
