Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Knuckles Design Revealed In Movie Set Photos
As Hollywood film and television productions begin their return to normalcy, the numerous video game adaptations for big and small screens are among the biggest productions resuming. The Witcher season 2 has reportedly finished filming for Netflix, and the live-action Borderlands movie is set to begin filming soon. One of the last theatrical releases to find success at the box office last year before lockdowns began just happened to be the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie. With the upcoming sequel introducing Tails, many wondered if other Sonic characters might appear. Now it seems that Knuckles the Echidna will indeed appear also in the sequel, as the new Knuckles design has apparently leaked.
Twitter user Pursuit23 recently shared photos taken from the set of the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie production in Vancouver, Canada. Most of the photos focus on the live action stars James Marsden and Tika Sumpter, reprising their roles from the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie, in an action-packed scene. One photo shows the physical statue props being used as stand-ins for the CG-animated versions of Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails and Knuckles the Echidna. This is particularly interesting because until now, the Knuckles design for the film series had yet to be officially revealed until now.
Previous rumors had indicated that Paramount Pictures did want Knuckles the Echidna in the sequel, with Jason Mamoa as the top choice to provide the voiceover work. The new Knuckles design, as evidenced by the stand-in statue used for filming, does seem to mostly follow Knuckles’ classic design, and less of the more recent designs that made him larger and more bulky than the other Sonic characters. This design could always change before the final cut of the film, lest we all be reminded of that horrid original design of Sonic from the first film’s trailer.
