Sonic the Hedgehog seems to be geared up for a great couple of years in the near future. After the recent success of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 at the box office, Paramount has already greenlit a third movie and spinoff streaming series for Knuckles the Echidna. Streaming services has especially been banking hard on adapting video game franchises to films and series for the platforms, such as the big budget Fallout series for Amazon or The Last of Us series at HBO. Now, Netflix has revealed their first look at the new Sonic Prime series coming to Netflix in the near future.

Netflix released the new Sonic Prime first look as a part of a Netflix After School video released on the Netflix After School YouTube channel. The first look flashes past as quickly as Sonic himself, but fittingly works as the final reveal of the video. Sonic is seen quickly running through the Green Hill Zone, as the new Sonic Prime logo appears shortly after. Sonic’s design looks like it is going for the more traditional Sonic look, after making a departure in recent years with the Sonic Boom video games and cartoons.

After the Sonic Prime logo reveal, Sonic is heard saying “I know what you’re thinking, I’m good and powerful apparently. Jealous?” This quick line is read by Devin Christian Mack, who is perhaps best known as the voice actor of Wynton Styles in various iterations of Bakugan. Some other confirmed voice actors so far include Ashleigh Ball, Shannon Chan-Kent, Brian Drummond and Vincent Tong. It has also been confirmed that this series will operate separately outside of the continuity of the recent Sonic films and Knuckles series being made by Paramount. Though it has also been suggested that this series may introduce a multiverse aspect at some point, which makes it possible for these continuities to interact. This will certainly breathe new life into Sonic while still being a return to form for the blue blur. Gotta go fast!
