Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Reveals First Live-Action Trailer (VIDEO)
A Sonic the Hedgehog movie would seem to be a pretty fun idea, but the upcoming live-action adaptation from Paramount Pictures hasn’t exactly been the most well-received. From the shadowy first poster, to a set of follow-up leaked images, fans weren’t particularly enthused about the character’s human-like direction; not even Sonic’s original video game creator. Well, it appears that an all new debate can begin, as the first Sonic movie trailer has now been revealed.
Seen below, the trailer begins as Sonic is inexplicably running loose in the real world, drawing the attention of Jim Carrey’s goofy Dr. Robotnik and his army of equally-goofy goons. However, catching up to the live-action hedgehog may present a problem as the speedy blue blur can apparently destroy vehicles, create shockwaves, and relatively freeze time just by putting one foot in front of the other. Check out the trailer and official description below.
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
This new Sonic trailer more-or-less lines up with what’s been revealed in the past, a previous leak detailing intriguing story information about Sonic’s origins, new characters, as well as Jim Carrey’s role as Eggman/Robotnik. Saying this movie is rife with leaks may be an understatement, as even this trailer’s debut was spoiled beforehand, a leaked screenshot going live hours before the footage officially debuted.
Now that the trailer has dropped, perhaps all will straighten out for the Sonic movie going forward, at least when it comes to leaks. However, fans’ change of heart might depend on reactions to the trailer and whether or not Sonic’s new look is still the stuff of nightmares or a passable live-action version.
The Sonic the Hedgehog movie releases in theaters on November 8th.
