Silent Hill Creator Teases New Game With Spooky Artwork (VIDEO)
Horror has been one of the most beloved gaming genres throughout the industry’s history, with one of the most notorious horror franchises being Silent Hill. Sadly, with Konami shifting its publishing focus away from traditional console games in favor of mobile and pachinko gaming machines, elements from Silent Hill have only been able to live on consoles through guest appearances in other horror games like Monsters and Mortals. Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama has since moved on and formed his new Bokeh Game Studio, and has released some new spooky artwork that provides a preview of his newest game.
Bokeh Game Studio recently released a new video on their YouTube channel focusing on Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama’s history in the industry, as well as his future. In the video, Toyama describes the first game that he will be creating at Bokeh, continuing the use of horror genre pastiches that Toyama is known for. However, this game will not be an entirely traditional horror-focused game, as he hopes to emulate the death game genre that has previously been embodied by games like Danganropa and Sword Art Online. Why Toyama specifically wants to fit this genre, here’s what he had to say about narratives from games like these:
These works tend to add entertainment to somewhat brutal worlds. You have these regular people driven into irrational situations. They’re on the edge emotionally, while dealing with action or drama. This influenced me and I think it will show in my next game.”
While the concept art shown in the video does not reveal much about the game’s plot, it is still somewhat unsettling to see. Joining the Silent Hill creator on the project are Gravity Rush lead designer Junya Okura and The Last Guardian’s Kazunobu Sato. The game is still very much early in development and is not expected to arrive until 2023 at the earliest. Still, it is great to see Toyama back behind the wheel of a game that is surely going to be terrifying.
