Shenmue HD Remasters for 1 and 2 May Arrive to PC this Year

Shenmue HD Remasters

Word on the street is the Shenmue HD Remasters for 1 and 2 will arrive to PC later this year. More than likely, they will be released simultaneously in order to preface the third installment to the series. The information was revealed to Rice Digital from a “trusted source close to Atlus USA” and it isn’t entirely far-fetched. Last month, it was revealed that SEGA Europe registered two different domain names in September 2016 – “” and “”.

Originally released for the Dreamcast console, it’s exciting to see how the game will look once they debut. Of course, the graphics will be dated, but the greatness that is the Shenmue series will remain! Sega has yet to confirm these rumors, but their Community Manager Dan Sheridan hasn’t denied it either. Though it confirms the remasters are on their way, there has been no official statement regarding a release date. Here’s what he had to say:

With regards to Shenmue 1 and 2 HD, of course we would love to release these tomorrow. Sadly, it’s not as simple as porting the games to the current platforms, as we would need to ensure that any HD remaster lived up to the quality of the original titles.”

At this point, fans can rest easy knowing it will make it to PC eventually. In fact, it’s just a matter of when. After the overwhelming success of Shenmue 3‘s Kickstarter campaign, it would be crazy not to release the Shenmue HD remasters sooner than later. Of course, some details are speculated and official news have not yet made headlines, but I’m sure we’ll hear from SEGA soon.

Shenmue 3 is slated for release in December 2017 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
