Shazam Goofs Up His Heroics In All-New Trailer 2 (VIDEO)

DC’s movie slate is looking mighty strong lately with heroes such as Wonder Woman, villains such as Joker, and the relatively recent success of Aquaman leading the charge. A new hero now aims to emerge from the depths of comic book lore in the form of Shazam!, a big-screen retelling of the adolescent-turned-superbeing exploits of one Billy Batson.

In an all-new trailer, the upcoming film adaptation sees a super red-clad Zachary Levi attempt to stop evil without the slightest grasp of how to handle his formidable powerset. From his spectacular bursts of electricity, powerful levels of strength, to scoring a few brewskis, it seems Shazam, a.k.a. “Captain Sparklefingers” doesn’t exactly have his hero business down, much to an increasingly hilarious degree. Check out the trailer below.

Though the movie is quickly approaching it’s release, it’s currently unknown how Shazam! might connect to the wider DC Extended Universe, if even at all. With Batman-star Ben Affleck officially walking away from the role and Warner Bros. suggesting a smaller focus on universe-building in the future, it’s looking less likely every day that a substantial crossover might actually happen. Then again with little footage released so far, Shazam! could always surprise us and feature Henry Cavill for a short Superman cameo.

Shazam! is set to hit theaters on April 5th.
