RuneScape Is Coming To Steam Next Month

After 17 long years of browser-based gaming, Jagex finally shut down the classic RuneScape servers everyone knew and loved in 2018. Despite the tragic news, that didn’t spell the end of RuneScape. Instead, an old-school version was introduced to mobile platforms instead and the developers have since focused their effort on their current, more modern version. Soon enough, it’s coming to Steam.

It’s been a long time coming, according to Jagex. As one of the largest MMORPGs on the market, RuneScape has a long history of development and community backing, the team is proud to present itself on Steam. Starting next month, players can embark on an adventure in the fantastical world of Gielinor. Form friendships, get married, master crafts, and more.

RuneScape offers cross-platform play as well, so long-time players won’t have to compromise their progress to jump over to Steam. Just link your account and continue where you last left off regardless of the platform.

According to the game’s executive director Mod Warden, this won’t be the last we’ll hear from Jagex. They have big plans for the future. “We won’t stop here either - we will continue to work with our partners to bring RuneScape everywhere we can, and to make it more accessible than ever,” said Warden. “You will see us integrate with alternative account services, on new platforms and become available in different stores. This is all about offering new ways to access RuneScape and appeal to new communities of players.

“We also know that reaching new audiences makes modernising RuneScape, scaling our operations and improving accessibility are even more important than ever before. I am asking the team to double down and focus on these areas to better support the influx of new players we’ll be welcoming together over the years ahead.”

RuneScape heads to Steam on October 14th.
