Resident Evil Movie Reboot Wraps Filming, New Set Image Revealed

Resident Evil Movie Reboot

Having been in the works for a number of years now, Screen Gems’ new Resident Evil movie reboot finally went entered production earlier this year with a star-studded cast set to adapt Capcom’s iconic gaming franchise. Differing from the Milla Jovovich-led series of old, this new reboot has been teased to explore the scarier aspects of the zombie-infested series, with the film’s new director aiming to recall particular vibes from the first two RE games. After beginning its main production several weeks ago, it appears filming has now officially been completed.

All was announced on the official Resident Evil movie Twitter account, with a new post confirming a wrap on principal photography and teasing fans with a new on-set image. Mainly focusing on a production film slate, the image doesn’t show anything too revealing. However, it does seemingly capture the atmosphere from the RE games, featuring an old-school static television as well as what appears to be a green herb plant on the far left of the photo.

While this wrap announcement depicts the first official image from the production, plenty more has been revealed through more unofficial means. Various surfaced images from the new Resident Evil movie have hinted at a number of areas in Raccoon City, including the R.P.D. police station, a full-size S.T.A.R.S. helicopter, as well as the Orphanage location from Resident Evil 2. Alongside an adaptation of the first game, these images suggest various bits of the Resident Evil sequel may also appear in the reboot in one form or another. Though, it’s still unclear how far the final product may ultimately go.

As of now, the only official details surrounding the Resident Evil movie reboot have to do with its cast, which currently amounts to a pretty exciting lineup of actors. Casting for the series main four of Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario), Jill Valentine (Hannah John-Kamen), Chris Redfield (Robbie Amell), and Leon Kennedy (Avan Jogia) were announced back in October, and with the recent end of filming, production appears to be moving at a considerably brisk pace. If this momentum keeps up, it’s probable that even more images or the inevitable first trailer may not be too far away, especially if the film’s recently leaked release date of September 9th, 2021 ends up coming to fruition.
