Rumor: Resident Evil 8 Is “Years Away,” Non-RE Remakes Coming “Soon”
Capcom has been riding a Nemesis-sized pile of success for the last few years, with projects such as Monster Hunter World and the Resident Evil 2 remake pushing the publisher’s hype to unprecedented heights. With Resident Evil 3 next on the reimagination train, it’d be easy to forget that an all-new Resident Evil 8 has also been in motion for a while now. However, even with rumors suggesting the RE7 sequel’s development has been ongoing, an official reveal is still nowhere in sight nearly two years later.
According to a new rumor, there may be a reason as to why Resident Evil 8 hasn’t yet seen the light of day. As per prominent game leaker AestheticGamer, the anticipated eighth entry was said to have “scrapped” and “rebooted” development “6-7 months ago,” with the new iteration of the project still less than a year along in progress. Work on the years-old previous version of RE8 reportedly “went on pause” in 2017 due to the extra work required for Resident Evil 7 DLC and last year’s RE2 remake, but it’s suggested that Capcom is now going in a new direction for the next mainline title.
I guess I can talk about this because people keep on asking me, but I’m going to warn I won’t talk about Resident Evil leak stuff for a long while after this so don’t be surprised if I don’t respond to specific questions.
So yeah, Resident Evil 8 is years away.

However, it actually got officially scrapped and the project rebooted only like 6-7 months ago, so the “final” RE8 version hasn’t even been in development for a full year yet. Now these reboots often go faster because some assets and such are carried over, but don’t expect RE8

Considering the project’s years-worth of assets, AestheticGamer suggests development on this “final” edition of Resident Evil 8 will likely move much more smoothly than before. However, fans were still warned to not to expect the game anytime soon as Capcom is alleged to have a number of other titles lined-up in the meantime. A new Resident Evil game was assured to release in the next year, but AestheticGamer stressed that it was “not a remake nor RE8,” ruling out potential Resident Evil 4 or Code Veronica remakes. The claim is nonetheless sure to inspire no shortage of speculation from fans.
Even more so, the leaker also revealed that Capcom has “a couple” non-RE reboots in the works, described as “in the same vein as RE2 & RE3.” While no specific titles were named, it’s said that each will utilize the RE Engine and teased that a reveal “should be seen pretty soon.” While such a tease would appear to hint at any number of games from Capcom’s back catalog, dormant franchises such as Breath of Fire, Darkstalkers, and Dino Crisis would be among the strongest contenders, especially considering recent trademark renewals and enthusiastic fan demand surrounding the latter.
which will probably release next year, but it’s not a remake nor RE8.
And that’s all I’m gonna’ say, now don’t bother me about RE for a while please.

All these unannounced claims are undoubtedly fantastic, but should ultimately be taken with as many grains of salt as possible until confirmed by Capcom. That being said, it should be noted that AestheticGamer has been correct in their reveals multiple times in the past, notably when it came to the Resident Evil 3 remake. The insider memorably divulged the game would release within the year and would be developed in tandem with the RE2 remake–several months before RE3 had its official announcement.
