Red Dead Online Update Is Bringing Much Needed Griefing Changes
It’s fairly easy to find players within Red Dead Online with small blips showing everybody in a server exactly where others are. This of course makes it extremely easy for trolls and griefers to constantly harass fellow cowpokes by repeatedly killing them. Thankfully the developers at Rockstar want to help alleviate some of these issues and are set to make some decent changes to the game.
According to a new blog post, some major changes are going to be arriving for the visibility system within the title. Rather than players being visible on the map all the time, the developers are reducing the range that digital banditos can see each other’s blips to 150 meters. Slightly further outside of this range players will only be seen if they fire their weapons, and anybody within a town won’t be visible at all. This will help prevent players from being targeted across long distances, making life just that much easier out in the wild west.
New features and more coming to the Red Dead Online Beta on Feb 26th with new improvements and enhancements to the game’s open world, including a new Law and Bounty system, weapons balancing, changes to player blips on the mini-map and more. https://t.co/MOSaXStj7m pic.twitter.com/huXgpk4Dcd

Of course this won’t stop trolls from being trolls and they’re sure to find way to kill everybody they can, despite the visibility changes. These overly aggressive players will soon get a taste of their own medicine as well. The new Law and Bounty system will see combative desperados racking up a bounty and once it reaches a certain point, NPC bounty hunters will ride out to eliminate the threat and collect their reward. The Red Dead Online bounties will grow based on crimes against players, NPC, and more to varying degrees depending on how severe the criminal behavior is.
Criminal behavior will have bounty values and honor consequences that scale based on the severity of the crime. For example, killing another player can incur a higher bounty, while assaulting townsfolk or animal cruelty could give you a lesser bounty if the crime is reported, while lower level crimes like looting and ransacking will only decrease your honor.”
Red Dead Redemption 2 and it’s online counterpart are available for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The upcoming update is set to release on February 26th for both platforms.
