Call of Duty 2019 Game Could Be Modern Warfare 4

Following Activision’s release of Call of Duty Black Ops 4, players were confronted with two extreme realities: the fact that “IIII” can also mean “four” and that the series has become the biggest it’s ever been. Despite the lacking single player, the latest in the alternating shooter franchise has continued to prosper over a decade after it originally began, showing fresh additions such as battle royale mode Blackout and continued innovation with mainstays such as its popular Zombies mode.

Now that a new year is upon us, it’s all but assured that a new Call of Duty game is on the horizon, with new rumors specifically foretelling the long-awaited arrival of Modern Warfare 4. Speculation about the fourth-coming title restarted recently following a social media exchange with Robert Bowling, a Creative Consultant for Electronic Arts and former employee of Infinity Ward. When approached by a fan regarding the next Call of Duty shooter, Bowling assured that a “Modern” entry will be releasing sometime “this year.”

Having ended its trilogy of titles in 2011, a fourth Modern Warfare game has always been in the mind of fans, especially those growing complacent with the futuristic and throwback WWII iterations from recent years. Bowling’s subtly capitalized hint of a “Modern” Call of Duty game for 2019 might be what these fans are hoping for, but it may also point to the release of something else.

There was a short span of time last year when rumors and purported leaks revealed a remaster of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was on the way, with an official announcement expected to be happen soon after. These unconfirmed reveals surprisingly led to nothing, leaving the fate of the remastered project up in the air. It’s possible a 2019 release of MW2 could also be the “Modern” project Bowling was referring to, or perhaps even a MW2/MW4 hybrid as premised by a recent leak.

What do you think? Are you getting Modern Warfare 4 vibes from that above tweet, or is is this just another case of playful trolling?
