An R-Rated Watchmen Animated Movie is in Development
Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ graphic novel is getting a second shot at the big screen from Warner Brothers. A Watchmen animated movie is already in development and fans on their A-List community program were surveyed to get their opinion on the upcoming film. According to a screenshot of the survey, the motion picture will be a “faithful adaption”. Check out the capture from Comic Book Resources below:
The graphic novel was published between 1986 and 1987 with a story that follows vigilante heroes as they face a world on the brink of apocalypse. Watchmen is considered one of the best novels of all time and its release was dubbed “the moment comic books grew up” by the BBC. A Watchmen animated movie could definitely bring more of the graphic novel to fruition if Warner Brothers can secure an R-Rating.
The Watchmen animated movie wouldn’t be the first time the graphic novel has been on the big screen. In 2009, Zack Snyder and Warner Brothers created a live action adaption of the story. Reactions to the film were on the spectrum, however. Moore has even said that he has yet to enjoy an adaption based on his work. Whether this new project will be up to snuff remains to be seen. One can only hope.
Word has yet to be released on who is involved with the Watchmen animated movie if it is indeed already in production. Fans will likely have to wait for the company to make an actual announcement to find out more. The prospect of another adaption is an exciting one, especially if they plan to be as faithful as they say.
