Project Cars Developer Acquired By Racing Sim Titan Codemasters

Project Cars

Slightly Mad Studios has a long history with racing simulators such as the absolutely gorgeous Project Cars, though in recent times the company has also gained a bit of notoriety for the development of their own high-end gaming console, the Mad Box. While there hasn’t been much information on the company’s upcoming console, it seems that Slightly Mad Studios has been acquired by another racing simulator giant, Codemasters.

The Mad Box might still be in the cards for the future, but for now, it seems that Codemasters is more interested in what Slightly Mad can bring to the table in terms of new games. A recent press release reveals that since both developers share a similar and unique passion for the racing genre, it makes perfect sense that the companies are joining forces. Ian Bell, the Founder and Chief Executive of Slightly Mad Studios explains:

Our combined racing games portfolio is the envy of the industry and this new partnership will enable us to learn from each other, share resources and take advantage of emerging platforms and technology. My team is excited to be joining Codemasters and we can’t wait to forge a relationship based on creativity, passion and the desire to create new racing experiences that excite and delight our communities.”

The press release also mentions the possibility of expanding into the streaming service market as well as the next generation of consoles. That said, there weren’t any specific plans announced for the companies nor were there any mentions about the Mad Box console. The two teams combined make for a powerful creator in the racing genre and it will be interesting to see what comes from the Codemasters purchase. Perhaps another Project Cars is on the table?
