Professional Overwatch Player Receives Ban for Streaming Hentai and Throwing Matches

Be careful streamers of the world, because if you don’t follow the rules, chances are you will be punished. Professional Overwatch player Daniel “Dafran” Francesca learned this lesson the hard way after streaming some very questionable content on multiple occasions. He’s a DPS player for Selfless and after what seemed like a mental breakdown, Blizzard finally had to swing the ban hammer on June 8th. A description of the ban according to Blizzard is as follows:

“Due to this violation, as of June 8, Blizzard will suspend Dafran’s access to his current Overwatch accounts for one week, and from Competitive Play for the remainder of Season 5. Further, Dafran is disqualified from Overwatch Contenders Season Zero, will not be eligible for Overwatch Contenders Season One, and is disqualified from all future Blizzard-sanctioned tournament play for the duration of this competitive season. Dafran’s Overwatch Contenders team is still eligible to compete with a substitute.”

Dafran will be allowed to return to pro play in the fall, so hopefully this professional Overwatch player can get it together by then. Among his offenses were the streaming of hentai video games, randomly building Torbjorn turrets, watching nature documentaries mid game, and purposely losing competitive matches. When other pro players and just the community in general started to take notice of his behaviour, Dafran knew that a possible ban was imminent and made a post about it saying that although he isn’t worried about his own reputation, he didn’t want his team to be punished as well.

“I honestly do not give a shit what happens to me and my fucking career, you can all go fuck yourselves

BUT

I am starting to realize my actions may be affecting my org, teammates and their careers…

Time to reform into Seagull V2 and be a cute little nice guy FeelsBadMan

Troll community, disband…. :(“

Once Blizzard actually did ban him, the professional Overwatch player followed up by simply saying “I reap what I sow and I deserve this.” His team also released a statement saying that they agree with the ban and are looking for a temporary replacement until the end of the Overwatch Contenders Season Zero and until they can get their teammate the help that he needs.

“While Dafran will no longer be playing with our team, we will be assisting him in finding the help, counseling, and guidance that he needs to improve his mental and emotional well-being. He is a dear friend, and we will be as supportive as possible during this time off from competitive play, so that he can come back stronger and better than ever.”

Although this is one of the first times that Blizzard has had to ban a professional Overwatch player, all streamers should take note and be careful not to do the same as Dafran did in the future.
