Producer Gives Reasoning Behind Resident Evil 7 First Person Perspective

Resident Evil 7 First Person Perspective

The hype for Resident Evil 7 is escalating as we are now less than a month away from the release of the much anticipated sequel. The announcement of the game at E3 earlier this year took fans by surprise, but what was even more surprising to some fans was the fact that this game would appear to put the player in a first person perspective, as opposed to the series’ usual third person standard perspective. Now, the game’s producer has given word regarding Capcom’s intentions for the Resident Evil 7 first person perspective.

In a recent interview with Game Informer, Resident Evil 7’s producer, Masachika Kawata, explained why the classic survival horror series would now change its usual gameplay perspective. The biggest factor in this change seems to largely involve making the player as engrossed as they possibly can be in the game’s world. As Kawata states:

When we decided on the direction of focusing on horror, we thought that having a first person perspective would be the most effective way to fully immerse the player in the experience.”

Kawata hopes that the first person viewpoint will make the player as the main character feel a more personal connection to the environment. Another added benefit to the switch to first-person perspective is that it allows for a more suitable method to play the game in Virtual Reality. We learned this year that the game would be playable with PlayStation VR, and while it might not be the main reason for the perspective shift, both Capcom and Sony likely both found favor with such a big title supporting the peripheral. What do you guys think? Are you happy with the new Resident Evil 7 first person perspective? What other changes would you like to see come to the series? Let us know in the comments below!
