The New Prey Soundtrack is Available Right Now – Listen to the Eerie OST Here (AUDIO)
One of the best parts about games are their immersive soundtracks. Without them, games lack a sense of atmosphere that helps shape its identity. Take the latest Doom game from id Software for instance. It featured music that was slow to start, eerie and foreboding with but would soon turn into a hellish heavy metal-like sound extremely conducive to a digital slaughterfest. The creator of those amazing tracks is Australian composer and sound designer Mick Gordon, who has also created the new Prey soundtrack. Take a listen to the track list below:
The soundtrack starts off with “The Experiment”, which has a nice, upbeat overtone, evoking a sense of wonder. Underneath however, there’s a darkness which evokes the feeling of apprehension. This sets up the theme for the rest of the soundtrack, the heavy synth notes are reminiscent of a sci-fi movie from the 80’s mixed with club dance music of the 90’s and early 2000’s.
While there are some distinct similarities between the Doom and Prey soundtracks, it’s very clear they’re both incredibly different. Where Doom relied on the heavy metal guitar sounds, the Prey soundtrack alters to more steel guitars and pianos, trading bloodthirst for fear. Gordon isn’t the only one to appear on the soundtrack – Ben Crossbones, Matt Piersall, and Raphael Colantonio, President of Studios, are also accredited.
