Prey 2 Plot Twist Shows the Cancelled Game’s Eerie Potential (VIDEO)
One of the more pleasant surprises in gaming so far this year has been the much anticipated return to the Prey franchise that Bethesda released earlier this month. It was over a decade since the release of the original Prey game, published in 2006 by 2K games, and yet Arkane Studios was successfully able to re-imagine the terrifying world for a new generation of gamers. However, many still wonder what the originally planned direct sequel Prey 2 would have brought to the franchise. Well, now we may know one disturbing factor that would have been present in the game with news of the Prey 2 plot twist that would’ve cast an uneasy existence on its hero. Check it out below:
The video seen above from Eurogamer reports information that has been gathered from former members of the cancelled game’s development team. From this wealth of details comes the knowledge of the plot twist that would have hit players towards the end of the game. Apparently, Tommy from the first Prey game would have had a significant role in the sequel, despite the focus of the story being centered around U.S. Marshall Killian Samuels. The two would work together eventually to fight the game’s villains. However, each time the player would die, Samuels would wake up back in his room aboard the Exodus, physically back to normal but with no memory of the events before.
This reawakening would be revealed to actually be a process by which Samuels would be cloned upon his death, with the new clone waking up in his room as the player’s new “Samuels”. In turn, a new clone would be created in the same process upon the previous clone’s death. Eerie, right? On top of that, late in the game, Samuels would also stumble upon a room full of his old discarded clone bodies, not to mention getting to live a full, peaceful life on Earth after defeating the game’s villains, only to then reawake back on the Exodus after dying in the care of his loved ones. This game certainly sounds like it would have been messed up, and a creative take on the respawning trope seen in gaming.
