Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee’s Name Botched By Al Roker (VIDEO)

Another Thanksgiving has come and gone, with families all across the US upholding the most time-honored traditions of the holiday. Perhaps no singular Thanksgiving event is as iconic as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. This year excited many nerdy fans with the return of several iconic pop culture balloons like Pikachu from Pokemon, and a new giant balloon modeled after the blue-haired Super Saiyan Goku from Dragon Ball Z. However, not everyone in the country is as well-versed in these animated characters, as evidenced by NBC’s Al Roker mispronouncing the phrases “Let’s Go Eevee” and “Super Saiyan.”

During NBC’s televised coverage of the 2018 Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, the legendary Al Roker provided commentary on the various floats and balloons in the parade. As seen in a video shared on @tole_cover’s Twitter account, Roker has apparently not been keeping up with this year’s Nintendo Directs enough to know how to properly pronounce the title of Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee when mentioning the new game.

The fluffy Pokemon’s name is pronounced as “Eee-Vee”, but Roker opted to interpret the name with an extra syllable at the end, pronouncing it as “Eee-Vee-Eee.” Naturally, this flub sparked a viral response on social media from nerdy fans obsessing over Roker’s mistake.

It was apparent that Roker had also not kept up with his Dragon Ball Z when it came time for the much-hyped inaugural appearance of the new Goku balloon. When the blue-haired Super-Saiyan form of Goku appeared, Roker pronounced the term Super Saiyan as “Super Sigh-in”, rather than the traditional pronunciation “Super Say-in.”

Between these two mispronunciations, it might be safe to say that Al Roker is probably not going to be made an admin for any Pokemon or Dragon Ball fan groups on social media any time soon. Hopefully by next year, Roker binges on anime so he can properly say “Izuku Midoriya” when the inevitable Deku from My Hero Academia balloon arrives.
