Pokémon Go Buddy Update Revealed With Tear-Inducing Commercial (VIDEO)

Pokémon Go Buddy

A quick look back at 2019 will show that it was a great year for Pokémon fans. Pokémon ventured for the first time into live action with Detective Pikachu releasing in theaters, and Pokémon Sword and Shield provided a colorful new generation of the core video game series with several new features. Pokémon Go has also been growing strong, with plenty of new events, features and series of Pokémon given as free updates this year. Now, the series is looking to add another feature from the console games. The new Pokémon Go Buddy update trailer reveals this with an ad that will make veteran fans nostalgic and bring a tear to their eye.

Niantic and The Pokemon Company have released the new Pokémon Go Buddy update trailer on the official Pokémon Go YouTube channel. The trailer shows a young Pokemon fan, presumably from the 90s, being gifted a plush Squirtle, and bonding with the toy. The trailer later shows the boy, now in adulthood, accompanied by a CG Squirtle, meant to be a visualization of the fan’s Squirtle “buddy” in Pokemon Go. The Squirtle walks alongside the grown boy in a park, as other citizens are seen with Pokemon companions of their own.

The buddy system will allow players to pick a particular Pokémon to walk alongside them on adventures. Players can bond with the buddy through actions, like playing together and feeding them food. As the bond between the buddy and player grows, the buddy Pokemon will help the player in new ways, such as finding items and helping in Pokemon battles. It seems that the files needed for the buddy system are already a part of the latest update, so players essentially have everything that is needed. Niantic has assured that the feature will be available “by 2020”, so it may be only a matter of days before players can choose their best friend in a world they must defend.
