PlayStation VR’s YouTube App Now Includes 360-degree Video Playback Capability
PlayStation VR has finally updated their YouTube app to play 360-degree videos, and we have to say that it’s about time! Since the platform’s launch in October, PSVR has been on a slow but steady incline in popularity with gamers. However, until now, the tech has not really utilized the 360-degree video function with its core programs, which… kind of doesn’t make sense considering it’s a virtual reality platform.
Just last month, Sony pushed out an update to massively expand their video library, but it didn’t quite fulfill the platform’s potential within the YouTube app (video quality was grainy, etc.). To the surprise of many, gamers could only access the use of 360-degree videos through third party apps. This was another disappointing factor that many gamers found unnecessary. Now, Sony has finally stepped up their YouTube game and happily posted about the update on the PlayStation Twitter account to announce the change to fans everywhere:

You can see a list of videos compatible with Sony’s app update here. There’s actually quite a few videos to choose from, which only further expands the platform’s capabilities for players everywhere. One thing is for sure, Sony is definitely trying to make this a gaming experience no one will want to forget about anytime soon, and it looks like they’re finally on the right track.
This update comes at a crucial point in PlayStation VR’s lifespan, as Sony has big plans for launching some incredible-looking games for their newest member of the platform family. A bevy of new titles are coming to VR this year, along with some other PlayStation 4 games like Gravity Rush 2 and Detroit: Become Human. It’s looking like 2017 is going to be a big year for Sony, so if you’ve held off on buying the PlayStation VR, it may be time to consider jumping on the bandwagon while the developers are picking up traction!
