PlayStation VR Library Expected To Grow Exponentially In 2018
Virtual Reality has been on the up and up for some time now, and with companies making the platform increasingly accessible, it’s only a matter of time before the likes of Ready Player One becomes the new norm. Okay, while that sort of futuristic goodness isn’t going to happen relatively soon, it is interesting to think of how far the technology has come in such a short amount of time. That being said, Sony is looking to expand upon what they’ve already got by adding a mountain of titles to the PlayStation VR library over the next year.
It’s already clear that Sony is putting a focus on their VR platform, especially with dropping the price, bundling it, and more. However, a recent report states that they will be ramping up support for the PlayStation VR library, which currently sits at 150 games strong. 2018 will see the company attempting to nearly double that number, increasing by 80% to around 280 titles. That is quite a lot of Virtual Reality to dive into.
With more than 2 million VR units sold, Sony certainly has their eye on the prize in the market. Now that more and more players are jumping onto the platform, it’s time to give them all of the content they could possibly desire. “It’ll be a slow burn,” ICD Research Director Lewis Ward told Gaming Bolt about Sony’s approach to their VR platform. He went on to say:
I really want to play Doom in VR just to see if it’s great – or has me puking in the first hour. I think it’ll be a few years before PS VR hits a 10% attach rate to PS4 consoles in North America, but I think this tech will get better in rev 2 and the content will get better and more varied, and so Sony will stick with it through the end of the PS4 lifecycle at least.”
Needless to say, the next 12 months will be filled to the brim with Virtual Reality. The PSVR is currently available at most major retailers and varies in price depending on bundling and the sort.
