PlayStation Head Commits To Strong First-Party Lineup On PS5
The PlayStation 4 has often been said to be the clear winner of this generation’s console race thanks in part to its stellar first-party lineup, with still a few impressive offerings to come as we move into 2020. As we quickly approach the next generation of consoles, many have been wondering how Sony plans to cement itself in the next-gen platform race, and it appears that the company plans on building on a similar framework as that of the PS4 by continuing to churn out epic first-party content.
In a recent interview with gamesindustry.biz, new Sony Worldwide Studios boss Hermen Hulst spoke about what fans can expect to see on the PlayStation 5, revealing that there will be a similar drive to deliver the same kind of high quality first-party content that helped keep the PlayStation 4 in its lofty position at the top of the pile. “We are very committed to the types of games we’ve been making at Worldwide Studios for the last decade: big, spectacular experiences with story and characters at the core,” Hulst said.
We will keep making these games, because we love to make them. And as a brand we are eager to branch out and start including and curating a new generation of developers, that create new and different experiences for a new generation of gamers.”
It’s hard to fault Sony for its decision not to switch up its game plan as it transitions to the PlayStation 5. The PS4 was a massive win for the company, and even if Microsoft manages to start cranking out the kind of first-party content it’s been promising, there’s still a decidedly large gap in between the companies thanks to all the exclusives – timed or otherwise – Sony’s player base enjoyed on the PS4. Still, anything can change, and it’ll be interesting to see what types of titles are announced next year for the next generation of consoles.
