PlayStation Controller Modded for Gamer with Cerebral Palsy- Amazing!
Prepare to have your faith in humanity restored! We at Don’t Feed The Gamers, have a firm belief that everyone out there deserves to be able to play video games as much as they want to, no matter the circumstances. Unfortunately, gamer Peter Byrne was faced with the difficult realization that not all fans are created equal, and when his PlayStation controller was causing him problems playing, he turned to the good people of Sony to seek out a solution.
The issue is, Peter Byrne suffers from cerebral palsy, a disorder that hinders his finer motor skills. Peter discovered, quite quickly, that because of his disability, the touchpad on his controller would interfere with his gaming experience, as he would bump it and pause the game frequently. In his frustration, he wrote to Sony to ask what could be done about this, certain that nothing would really come of his letter. That’s when he got the biggest surprise of his life: a literal Angel on Earth responded to his concern by building a custom PlayStation Controller just for him!
Peter Byrne explained in an interview with News 12 New Jersey that shortly after he’d sent the letter to Sony, explaining is problem, he was contacted by Alex Nawabi, who quickly went to work in creating the perfect controller for Peter. Ten hours of work and 3 Dualshock controllers later, Nawabi sent the modified PlayStation controller to Peter, with a letter explaining what had gone into the custom design and what to do in case the controller broke. Peter was so touched by the generosity of this Good Samaritan he posted the letter on his Facebook, proudly showing off his gift and publicly thanking the selfless employee for all the hard work he’d put into the controller.
The email you sent definitely struck a chord within. I’m not sure how you got access to our email but I’m glad I could be of some help. It killed me to hear how something you used to enjoy thoroughly was being ruined because of our new controller design. Although, I can’t help everyone who has this problem, at least I could help you. ~ Alex Nawabi, Sony Retail Marketing Operations
This is definitely a touching story, and Mr. Nawabi certainly deserves all the good karma coming his way for this act of kindness. It’s wonderful to see that Peter is enjoying his gaming lifestyle once again, all thanks to a special PlayStation Controller given to him by an amazing human being. Perhaps in the future, we will see this incredible event spark a movement for controller variations pertaining to situations such as this. It’s not hard to believe such a thing can occur, as the video game industry already has its heart out to those who need our love and support. For instance, The Call of Duty Endowment charity has already paved a well-loved path for helping veterans by donating their proceeds to the needy. So who knows? Perhaps Mr. Nawabi has started a brand new movement for creating custom controllers for everyone, and taken the first steps in all-around inclusion for every gamer out there. We can certainly hope so.
What do you think of this selfless act of charity for our fellow gamer? Do you believe this will spark a whole new movement for gaming inclusion for all? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, and game on!
