PlayStation Classic Datamining Reveals List Of Rejected Games

It is no secret by now that Sony’s PlayStation Classic mini console has a rather disappointing selection of games in its line-up. So disappointing, in fact, that we wrote up a list of 10 classic games that should have made the cut instead of some of the ones that were chosen (looking at you Intelligent Qube). Now, it appears that we’ve been given a glimpse behind the curtain at some of the games that were rejected from the final list, some of which would have made the console a much more worthy prospect for nostalgic gamers.

Some dataminers took a look inside the PlayStation Classic and released a code dump of their findings over on GitHub. Uncovered by IGN, the code dump revealed a list of over 30 titles that Sony was seemingly testing out on the PlayStation Classic before they settled for the 20 that eventually shipped with the console. The list in its entirety can be found below:

  • Chocobo’s Mysterious Dungeon
  • Colin McRae Rally
  • Crash Bandicoot
  • Crash 2
  • Toy Story 2
  • Driver
  • Ehrgeiz
  • Fighting Force
  • Gran Turismo
  • GTA 2
  • Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
  • Kagero
  • Klonoa
  • Kula World
  • Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
  • Medal of Honor
  • MediEvil
  • Mega Man Legends
  • Mr. Driller G
  • Paca Paca Passion
  • PaRappa the Rapper
  • Parasite Eve
  • RayStorm
  • Ridge Racer
  • Silent Hill
  • Spec Ops: Stealth Patrol
  • Street Fighter Alpha 3
  • Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha
  • Suikoden
  • Tomb Raider
  • Tomb Raider 2
  • Tomba
  • Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2
  • Vagrant Story
  • Wild Arms 2
  • Xevious 3D/G+

There is the very distinct possibility that Sony was testing at least some of the above games on the console before acquiring licenses became an issue, thus preventing the inclusion of many of the listed titles. In fact, it is possible that Sony wanted to include some of the games that many gamers would have preferred make it onto the list, it just wasn’t possible for one reason or another. Alas, the released PlayStation Classic is the only one we’ve got, and while there are many games we wish were included, at least we can still hack into it,

The PlayStation Classic console is now available for purchase through select retailers.

So, thoughts on the uncovered games list? Which of the titles mentioned would you have liked to see included in the console?
