The past few weeks have had Blizzard busier than usual as they begin rolling out the teams competing in this year’s professional league play in Overwatch. Last week marked the reveal of San Francisco’s team and featured a number of appearances including Shaq, Marshawn Lunch, and Jennifer Lopez. This week another two teams were announced, the Dallas Fuel, and the Shanghai Dragons. For those looking closely, it would appear that in-game Overwatch League items are being made available.

As can be seen in the images above, both Mei and Genji are showing off skins that show off team colors and branding. While it was at first unclear whether or not these were indeed Overwatch League items, an inquiring mind sussed out the truth. Here is what a league representative had to say about the skins:

We were honored to collaborate with the Overwatch development team and Team Envy to announce the Dallas Fuel’s visual identity with a custom Genji skin for demonstration purposes. We look forward to sharing more information about Overwatch League-affiliated in-game items in the coming months.”

While it is said this is only “for demonstration purposes”, it is possible that in-game Overwatch League items could be full-on branded skins. It is also possible that emblem weapon skins might be on the docket for players to apply instead (or as well) and time will tell for sure on this front. Ultimately, it would seem that Blizzard is working with the leagues to create a space where players can represent their favorite team and get everyone in the spirit of the upcoming competition.
