Overwatch Behind-the-Scenes Look Behind the Hilarious CookieWatch Short (VIDEO)

Overwatch

In May of last year, Overwatch released one of the greatest tales the game has ever told in a short stop-motion video called “Trace and Bake.” A second video arrived during the 2018 Holiday season, and now developers are going behind the scenes of the action packed battles for delicious sweets with a new CookieWatch expose.

Cookiewatch features a fight for Christmas cookies between Reaper, Tracer, and later Doomfist. According to Justin Rasch in the video, he had been eating sushi one day while a Reaper figure was sitting there, staring. This became the “genesis” for what would later become the fun and impressive stop-motion fight sequence.

The team working on CookieWatch watch utilised a variety of techniques both during shooting and afterwards to make the fun short. Some of the techniques were quite innovative, such as a clever pin and thread contraption to make Tracer’s couch jumping feel a little more realistic. Digital effects were added in later to show off the special abilities of each character like Reaper’s smoke and Tracer’s blink abilities giving that extra special touch to bring the short together.

Later, Lead Writer for Overwatch Michael Chu explained that while this was a silly little holiday adventure, it was important that the characters stayed true to their in-game counterparts. While they may have seemed slightly more endearing than usual, there were plenty of hints or “echoes” to their  other selves.

Overwatch is currently available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. These small shorts bring a little different look at the world of Overwatch in a fun way.  What do you think of these stop-motion shorts?
