Oculus Rift Outages Reported Worldwide

Oculus Rift Outage

Those looking to immerse themselves in some sweet VR action may not be confronted with the fun they were hoping for. Gamers across the world have been reporting a severe Oculus Rift outage that has prevented even basic usage of their headsets.

The Oculus Forums have been ablaze with frustration all morning long with users venting their encounters with a “Can’t Reach Oculus Runtime Service” error upon booting up the device. The message states to contact Oculus Support if the issue continues, but forum users have been suggesting other means of fixing the problem in the meantime.

Most have presented the age-old solution of just rebooting the device, but others have gone a step further in just re-installing the Oculus software, but neither have been largely helpful to those in the forums. One user came to the conclusion that the license may have expired for the software, making the operating system unable to run without proper authentication. Luckily, whatever the problem may be, Oculus has responded to the situation, confirming they are working on a fix for the widespread Oculus Rift outage.

Hopefully the issue is resolved in a timely manner, especially with so many new VR titles on the way this month. We imagine users unable to even start up their hardware is very high on Oculus’ priority list, so a fix is likely to be rolled out soon. We’ll offer an update as soon as it goes live so be sure to check back here at DFTG!
