Nintendo Switch Price Cut And Successor Rumors Addressed By Company
Recently, there has been a significant amount of talk in regards to a next generation Nintendo console in development, and in turn the potential for a price cut to the massively successful Nintendo Switch. Now, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa himself has gone on record to address these rumors, and his answer may be a bit divisive depending on how you feel about the Switch.
The news comes by way of a translated interview by Nintendo Everything, wherein the President discussed the rumors of both a price cut to the Nintendo Switch as well as the possibility of a successor console in development. Furukawa revealed that they “are not considering a successor,” at least not at this time. As this would have gone hand in hand with the price cut rumors, that appears to also be a no-go. In regards to both the successor and price cut, Furukawa said that “it is an extremely ambitious, but worthwhile achievement.”
So, we will maintain this goal. Nintendo Switch is our primary sales objective, and we are not considering a successor or a price cut at this time.”
Popularity for the Nintendo Switch has certainly been on the rise recently, thanks in no small part to the exclusive title Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This combined with a gamer’s need for portability has done much in driving sales for the Switch, and if the Big N can keep up the momentum without the need for a price cut, they likely won’t feel the need to make one. When discussing in the interview what it’s like to be in competition with the other gaming platforms, the President said that “Nintendo is a company in the entertainment industry and our mission is to give people a reason to smile.”
Since our business is linked to the ebb and flow of our times, we are requiring those who can adapt in a flexible manner. In the past, we have increased our internship programs and such to interest people in how we do things; we want to continue to spread Nintendo’s ways of thinking.”
So, thoughts on the President’s comments on the lack of a price cut for the Switch? Do you feel that a price cut for the console can be justified in the near future?
