Nintendo Switch Will Provide Micro SDXC Card Support For Up To 2TB

Micro SDXC Card Support

Switch fever is in full swing with the device selling out at major retailers, despite some fan concerns over the device. One of the biggest fan concerns for the much anticipated new Nintendo console, the Nintendo Switch, was in regards to the storage space capabilities of the system. Given the device’s portable nature, Nintendo’s less than stellar history with storage space on its devices and the high memory usage of modern games, there has been plenty to add to fans’ fears. Now, however, those fears can subside, as a new official statement from Nintendo has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch will provide Micro SDXC Card support for up to 2TB of storage.

Nintendo has shared this official statement with GameInformer after the site reported that the system would support up to 256 GB Micro SDXC Cards. The site also reported that the cards could be inserted into the device via a slot underneath the device’s kickstand area and that 256GB cards usually sell for $150 to $200 on Amazon. In response to this posting, Nintendo wanted to clarify details about the device’s capabilities with Micro SDXC cards by stating:

“Nintendo Switch is compatible with the SDXC standard, which supports up to 2TB. (Note that 2TB cards are not yet on the market, but the system will support them when they are.)”

This is interesting that Nintendo acknowledged that they intend to support 2TB cards despite the highest size for Micro SD is currently only 256 GB. It’s reassuring to see that Nintendo is thinking very forwardly about the future of the Switch. If only the same could be said about how certain frames of the 1 2 Switch trailer looked to the editors. What do you guys think? Are you excited to see Micro SDXC card support for the Switch being so high? What other storage options would you like to see come to the Switch? Let us know in the comments below!
