Nintendo Announces Indie Highlights Showcase Date

It’s the year 2019 and fans have yet to hear a peep out of Nintendo since the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the following Spirit events. There was a false alarm earlier this month that alluded to a Direct announcement, but there’s real news from the gaming giant this time around. Thanks to the good folks over at Nintendo of Europe’s Twitter account, an announcement video coming soon is an Indie Highlight showcase.

Beginning January 23rd at 3 PM CET / 6 AM PST / 9 AM EST, the Indies Highlights showcase will be revealed. Independent developers from around the world get a chance to show off the hard work they’ve put into a gaming experience that might otherwise become overshadowed by triple-A titles. “Uncover top-quality experiences from independent developers with Indie Highlights,” reads the description of the company. “Covering a wide range of genres, Indie Highlights represent some of the best titles available from independent developers.”

This might be underwhelming news for some, but Nintendo can’t come out with a bang. At least, not this early in the game. They need to gradually ramp up the excitement for the new year. There’s still a good eleven months left for announcements and big news yet. With all of that said, there are a few titles people can already expect as part of the showcase such as Terraria, Dragon: Marked for Death, Night Call, Windjammers 2, and more. However, there are likely a few surprises in store.
