New Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Trailer Teases Trippy Cameos

New Doctor Strange

Marvel seems poised going into 2022 to hold onto its position at the top of the multimedia landscape quite well. At least five new Marvel Cinematic Universe original series are coming to Disney Plus this year and three theatrical films are set to hit cinemas as well. The first of these theatrical films will be a Doctor Strange sequel starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Looks at the film so far have promised an even bigger mind-bending and trippy experience compared to the first film. Now, a new Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer has teased big reveals that will happen in the film.

Marvel Studios shared the new Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer on the official Marvel Entertainment YouTube channel, after having first released it during the big sports ball game event this past weekend. The trailer begins as Doctor Strange is haunted by nightmares about his universe being affected by the multiverse, likely from the effects of tampering with it in Spider-Man: No Way Home. After consulting with Wanda, with Elizabeth Olsen reprising the role after the events of WandaVision, Strange appears to be taken into custody by robotic guards. It is suggested that Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Karl Mordo is behind this, after his heel turn in the end of the first film.

New Doctor Strange

The robots take Strange before a mysterious council of hooded figures to stand trial, with one figure saying “we should tell him the truth.” While only this figure’s shoulder is seen, the quick clip of his voice has led many to believe that this is none other than Sir Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Professor X from the Fox X-Men films. If so, this would indeed set up the multiversal aspect of the film, bringing the X-Men into the MCU fold, and Professor X will be serving on the Illuminati council from the comics. This council is known consisting of leaders representing different factions of multiversal beings, of which Strange himself usually represents magic-users.

In addition, the trailer also shows the return of Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, Benedict Wong as Wong and the debut of Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez. There also appears to be an unknown Captain Marvel variant in the mix that will face off against Wanda, though it is not known who the identity of this variant is. Whoever it ends up being, this movie is certainly shaping up to be one of the biggest films of 2022. Time for the Multiplex to step into the multiverse.
