Murderer Reveals Wife’s Body In Exchange For Xbox One
With the rise of gaming’s popularity in recent years, we have also seen a rise in video games intersecting with the real life criminal world. Crimes connected to gaming, such as the act of swatting, have led to fatal accidents, and video game devices have even been used to both help criminals commit crimes and assist in their capture. Now, one criminal connected to gaming for a crime has made a deal for access to his preferred hobby. A murderer has made a deal to reveal the location of his wife’s body in exchange for an Xbox One.
Stewart was convicted of murdering his wife, Venus Stewart, after she was reported missing in April of 2010. Until recently, Stewart had denied that he was involved with his wife’s disappearance and murder. However, that changed this past month, according to a report from The Daily Beast, which stated that Stewart made a quid pro deal with the state of Michigan to confess details about the murder, including where Venus’s body could be found, in exchange for access to an Xbox One among other requests. Stewart then worked with Michigan police to unearth the body in the forest location where she was killed and buried.
Eerily enough, this case also involved Xbox before, as Stewart used Xbox Live services to meet and coordinate with one Ricky Spencer, who acted as Stewart’s accomplice in the murder. While the full details of Stewart’s bargain with officials are not known, it is confirmed that Stewart will not have internet access as a part of the agreement, so there will be no online play for him. While it is not a common privilege, many have pointed out that video game usage among inmates is usually regulated and often prohibits violent video games from use. Still, some would consider this a relatively small price to pay for closure on the case of Venus Stewart’s murder, and hopefully it brings some sense of release for her friends and family.
