Mortal Kombat 11: Ronda Rousey Channels Sonya Blade at WWE Elimination Chamber

While there was already plenty of hype for an eleventh outing, one of the most toutable aspects of the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11 is its new iteration of Sonya Blade, the character voiced by none other than former UFC and current WWE star Ronda Rousey. The accomplished combat athlete seemed pretty well-cast as the hardened Special Forces officer and Rousey further inhabited the role with some Sonya-inspired attire from WWE’s recent Elimination Chamber event.

While this year’s edition of the pay-per-view wouldn’t feature Rousey in the titular structure, the Raw Women’s Champion nonetheless made her appearance memorable by her pretty on-point cosplay. Before heading into battle with title contender Ruby Riott, Rousey let her opponent know she means business by going between the ropes as her brutal Mortal Kombat 11 counterpart.

It would appear the clothing-based fear tactics were successful as the Women’s Champ retained her title at the event, defeating Riott in a decidedly flawless victory. The match in its entirety lasted only a few minutes, with Rousey largely dominating throughout the bout’s surprisingly short duration.

Ronda Rousey may be the champ in the WWE, but a new round of Mortal Kombat is gearing up for later this year. So far, familiar kontenders such as the deadly Revenant Jade, the blade-brandishing Kabal, and the insectine assassin D’Vorah have all been konfirmed alongside a myriad of others. However, we may have even more characters make their return, including fellow WWE star John Cena as Stryker, by the looks of some recent leaks.

Mortal Kombat 11 releases for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 23rd. A beta session is scheduled to take place sometime next month.
