New Monster Hunter Movie Set Photo Shows Off Milla Jovovich’s Dual Wielding Skills
The Monster Hunter movie adaptation set has been particularly quiet as of late. Aside from the batch of character posters that were released earlier this year, the cast & crew seem content with keeping their heads down and continuing to push towards the film’s early 2021 release. Thankfully, the quiet appears to have been temporarily broken long enough for us to get a glimpse at Milla Jovovich’s character, Artemis, dual wielding blades.
The new Monster Hunter set photo comes to us by way of the folks over at Empire Online, which recently sat down with both star Milla Jovovich and the film’s director, Paul WS Anderson, to speak about the upcoming flick. Seen below, the photo itself – which appears to be intentionally cropped to possibly avoid spoilers – features Jovovich wielding two blades, a design choice made by Jovovich based on her own experiences with the Monster Hunter franchise. “I experimented with different weapons during the game and was able to kill more monsters with those blades,” says Jovovich. “I thought they’d look really beautiful in an action sequence.”
As for the actual character wielding the dual blades, the director confirmed that he created Artemis as a way to ease in those unfamiliar with the franchise. “I wrote the role of Artemis for Milla as the avatar for the player, so she could be a grounded, relatable real-world character who is fresh to the world of Monster Hunter,” Anderson said. Jovovich continues on to confirm that Artemis is by no means familiar with the ‘Monster Hunter World’, as it were, and that she’s simply “the captain of a team of Army Rangers that go in to rescue their colleagues.”
The Monster Hunter movie adaptation is slated to release on the big screen early 2021.
