New ‘Monster Hunter’ Movie Details Revealed

New Monster Hunter Movie Details Revealed

Capcom’s upcoming ‘Monster Hunter’ movie adaptation is the latest film to attempt to break the dreaded video game movie curse. Directed by Resident Evil series alum Paul W.S. Anderson and starring his wife, Milla Jovovich, the film is slated to begin production soon in South Africa with a $60 million budget. Just recently, the director promised that several casting announcements were going to be made soon, the first of which ended up being the reveal that both Ron Perlman and T.I. Harris were joining the cast. Now, it appears that we know just a bit more about the movie thanks to a recent press release.

Capcom revealed in a press release today a few of the plot points for the upcoming Monster Hunter movie adaptation. These are the first real details fans will learn about the movie, with previous announcements relegated to casting decisions and the fact that the film will contain “Bloody big monsters,” according to the director. This is what Capcom had to say:

The film will depict two protagonists who come from different worlds and must cooperate in fighting monsters in order to survive. It is being produced by Constantin Films, and has Paul W. S. Anderson, known for the series of Resident Evil films based on Capcom’s games, on as both writer and director. Toho will distribute the film in Japan.”

The above information could mean a lot of things. We know that for the most part, Milla Jovovich doesn’t tend to play fish out of water characters, so it seems likely that her character, Artemis, is a seasoned Monster Hunter, with an as-yet revealed character from a “different world” joining up with her. It is also possible that the “different worlds” bit could simply be referring to the difference between the new and the old world, with the former being the location of Capcom’s latest entry in the series, Monster Hunter World. Here’s hoping we won’t have to wait long to learn more.

Monster Hunter World is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
