Microsoft Is Going "As Big At E3 As We've Ever Been," Says Xbox Boss

Late last year, Sony made the surprise announcement that both the company and the PlayStation 4 would be completely absent from E3 2019, citing that there wasn’t enough to show off to warrant being there at all. This spurred some almost immediate responses from both Nintendo and Microsoft stating that each company would still be in attendance, despite Sony backing out. Now, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has gone a step even further by confirming that their presence at the expo will be “as big at E3 as we’ve ever been.”

The news comes by way of an interview between Major Nelson and Microsoft gaming VP Phil Spencer, wherein a variety of gaming topics were discussed before the subject landed upon E3 2019. “There was obviously some news about E3 back in the Fall and we had a discussion interally of “should we go big? Should we save some money?” Spencer said, obviously referencing Sony’s decision to abscond from the event.

We just said “No, we are going to do our thing.” We’re going to go and be as big at E3 as we’ve ever been. I love that opportunity to be with our fans and the industry.”

Sony obviously had its reasons for pulling out of E3 2019, but you have to wonder if they were legitimate enough to warrant allowing the spotlight to shine all the brighter on both Microsoft and Nintendo. Sony can of course release news at its leisure, though with the other two big companies poised to deliver what is expected to be a solid showing at E3, the PlayStation company may find its current lead at the head of the pack dwindling.
