Sony Confirms PlayStation Will Not Be At E3 2019
The Electronic Entertainment Expo is regarded as the biggest time of the year gaming companies show off their most promising upcoming projects, with a massive audience eagerly awaiting these hype-inspiring announcements. As the event has become synonymous with monstrous reveals, the highest-profile companies in the industry have all held conferences to broadcast their wares to gamers, but it looks like PlayStation isn’t making that a priority for E3 2019.
“As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community,” the company told Game Informer in a statement. “PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”
PlayStation senior vice president of communications Jennifer Clark also touched on whether or not they would pull an EA and make their own celebration, “We will not activate or hold a press conference around E3.”
PlayStation’s halt of this year’s E3 ceremonies may come as a surprise to fans, especially following the announced absence of 2019’s PlayStation Experience earlier last month. Those familiar with the yearly Expo are likely aware of Sony’s regular presence, having been a part of the proceedings since it all began over 24 years ago. While the 25th iteration will unfortunately break that trend, the above statement suggests an alternate event that will be unveiled in due time.
