Marvel XCOM, Other 2K Games Leaked Ahead Of E3 2021

With E3 2021 proceedings closely approaching, it appears that several previously unannounced games have been leaked ahead of time. As revealed in a recent post on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit (via VGC) and corroborated by industry insider Jason Schreier, a handful of titles from 2K Games such as NBA 2K22, a new Borderlands spin-off, and a new Marvel XCOM title are reportedly on the way from the publisher, with the poster attributing the new information to an unnamed source.

Of the named games, the Marvel XCOM project certainly stands out from the rest, with the leak detailing a new spin on the turn-based action franchise from developer Firaxis Games. Codenamed “CODA”, the experience is described as “XCOM with Marvel heroes” and would mark the latest entry of the series since last year’s Chimera Squad. Adding to the overall intrigue, it’s also said that “famous actors” are set to voice Earth’s mightiest heroes for the unprecedented collaboration, but nothing further was shared about the unannounced release.

Another standout of the leak was the mention of a new Borderlands spin-off centered around fan-favorite character Tiny Tina, which is reportedly set to be called “Wonderlands.” Described as following a similar “multi-class hero” setup as the main Borderlands games, the post points to a few trademarks that seem to back up the project’s existence; one filed in November 2020 and another in December 2020. While a Borderlands spin-off has been rumored for a few months now, the game is finally set to be revealed at E3 2021, according to the leak’s source.

The final subjects of the leak include the inevitable NBA 2K22 – which sees Dallas Mavericks all-star Dirk Nowitzki grace at least one of the game’s edition-specific covers – and a project codenamed ‘Volt.’ Described as “Cthulhu meets Saints Row,” the currently-unnamed game reportedly features a logo reminiscent of Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic Fallout series and is said to be in “really early development.” Though the leaker expressed they were unsure who might be heading development, Mafia studio Hangar 13 was speculated to be the team behind the project.

Though these game leaks definitely appear legitimate, especially with corroboration from third-party sources, it might be best to err on the side of caution and keep a few grains of salt nearby. With that said, it won’t be very long before we’ll all know one way or the other, as E3 2021 is now only a handful of days away. Borderlands developer Gearbox is set to kick off the proceedings with its own conference on June 12th, with everything concluding with a big awards show on June 15th.
